About the job

Design Technologist, Global Production Service

Job summary

Global Production Solutions (GPS) is a global, internal creative team. Its mission is to craft compelling visual design, communications, on-site/off-site graphics, videos, style guides, and user experiences. They apply strategic insights to delight customers by helping them discover the best content, products, and services on Amazon.

They are looking for a talented, innovation-driven design technologist to join the 3D team. The primary focus will be to drive efficiencies and build workflow improvements for repetitive, medium to high complexity design tasks, supporting our team’s focus shift towards high complexity 3D design work. You will be in close collaboration with design leads, 3D Artists, Design Technologists, Applied Scientists, Product Managers, and Business teams across international locations.

What are they looking for in you?

The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated, self-directed, enthusiastic person who works well under pressure and can thrive in a deadline-driven atmosphere. You must have proficiency in a variety of languages, libraries, and supporting technologies (e.g.: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ReactNative, AWS, Node, Python) and should be able to take a defined idea, turn it into code, and deliver prototypes, working samples, and/or reference code on schedule. You will work effectively with stakeholders (e.g., designers, engineers, product managers) to understand business impacts and identify opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions. The ability to manage multiple projects and communicate with key stakeholders is essential. A portfolio of design solutions (websites, apps, workflow improvements) is required.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develops small-medium prototypes for straightforward technical problems (e.g. components, small features) and builds efficiencies in the 3D design workflow.
  • Builds prototype solutions that answer questions about the design, usability, feasibility, and desirability of proposed CXs.
  • Produces working samples and reference code that demonstrate how a desired efficiency could be implemented.
  • Makes great customer experiences rather than just imagine them.
  • Pattern-matches against existing designs, Amazon-brand guidelines, and team-specific design patterns
  • Documents prototypes to ensure future generations of Design Technologists understand the intent behind the prototypes already built and the learnings that came along.
  • Templatizes repeatable content.
  • Delivers fast “hack” type solutions in an Agile workflow with rapid iterations.
  • The deliverables are based on requirements provided by others; the DT actively seeks input and guidance from senior team members/designers or PMs.
  • Works effectively with stakeholders (e.g., designers, engineers, product managers) to understand business impact, and identify opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions.
  • Actively seeks to update knowledge
